In response to the growing threat of drones on the modern battlefield, French defence firms CILAS and Arquus have taken a major step forward by integrating the HELMA-LP laser weapon system onto the remotely operated T1 Hornet turret.
This latest development is part of an accelerated experimental programme aimed at delivering practical counter-drone solutions to ground forces facing urgent operational demands.
Initial demonstrations of the hybrid system included live-fire tests against both stationary and slow-moving aerial targets at a range of approximately 200 metres. The laser weapon proved capable of neutralising drone optics within one second and fully disabling unmanned aerial systems in under ten seconds.
