As part of its blue homeland strategy, Turkiye has launched the IZMIR (F-516) and IZMİT (F-517) frigates constructed in coordination with the Turkish Defence Industry Agency (SSB).
These MİLGEM İSTİF class frigates are an evolution of the Ada-class corvettes, featuring enhanced firepower, extended range, and improved multi-role operational capabilities, making them suitable for coastal missions.
Moreover, these vessels are equipped with advanced sensor systems, including locally developed Turkish radar technologies that enable simultaneous detection and tracking of multiple air and surface targets.
Additionally, the vessel’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities are supported by a combination of hull-mounted and towed sonar systems.
